Route 17. Carlism

Recorrido

The circular route starts from the square in Lácar. We head towards Lorca, passing over the A-12 and crossing the NA-1110 road before reaching the village. After crossing it, we leave southwards towards the Mauriáin ravine and climb gradually until we reach the Tauste-Andía Royal Drove Road. We then follow part of this drove road until we turn off to visit the Princess of Asturias redoubt: one of the four fortifications built by the liberals on Mount Esquinza to hold their position against the Carlists.

We then descend through the Prado ravine until a junction where the path turns uphill and brings us back to the Royal Drove Road. We then descend towards the Cross of Mauriáin. In this area, between the boundary of Lorca and Villatuerta, stood the Cáceres redoubt, another of the fortifications built by the liberals. From here, we take the SL-NA 184 path, now declassified, towards the village of Lácar. We cross the Way of St James, the NA-1110 road and the A-12, this time passing underneath, and head north along a track until we reach the starting point of the route.
