Route 21. Prisoners’ Path

The circular route starts from the motorhome area in Ayegui (Ardantze). We head south along the paved road, cross the NA-1110 and reach the winery and the Monastery of Irache. At this point, we join the Way of St James. On reaching Irache, we pass under the A-12 and continue along a wide track towards the foothills of Montejurra. We skirt part of the northern slope of this emblematic mountain and climb uphill until we reach the viewpoint overlooking Estella.

After the viewpoint, we leave the Way of the Cross to one side and walk below the rugged terrain of Montejurra. We pass the turn-off for the Gudaris path and, at Hoya de la Cal, take a downhill route to meet the Way of St James again. Finally, we return along it to the starting point on the outskirts of Ayegui.
